Dr. Shamim holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Her Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is also from Stellenbosch University. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Botswana. Her postgraduate research and publications have focused on design of Electronic components and devices operating in the Radio Frequency (RF) and Microwave Frequency range of the Electromagnetic spectrum. Her special interests have been design for minimization of manufacturing costs and miniaturization of RF and Microwave frequency filters to fit with the current trend in the world of technology towards smaller gadgets. Her work on miniaturization has explored multilayered circuit technologies and associated manufacturing processes with specific focus on Low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC), Liquid Crystal Polymers (LCP) and multi layer PCB. She has worked in Substrate-integrated waveguide topologies and has also delved into the analysis of electromagnetic field interactions within several filter structures to prove alternative theories that explain specific signal behaviors.
Before joining RAF International University, Dr. Shamim was a lecturer at Multimedia University teaching both undergraduate and Masters Classes. She taught in the areas of Circuit Analysis, Antenna Systems and Radio Frequency circuits and systems. She has also worked short-term with BRCK, a company which provides low-powered internet solutions in several African countries using Internet-of-things technology.
Her experiences in the classroom with students have led Dr. Shamim to develop high interest in the fields of teaching and learning. She is passionate about getting both lecturers and students to realize their expansive potentials in order to maximize academic performance. She intends to oversee and guide the very qualified and capable team of academics at RAF international University towards realizing an institution of excellence that will produce well-rounded graduates with excellent research skills and high rates of employability. She also wants to works towards meeting the University’s vision of becoming a leading research University in Kenya.
